RJM Acquisitions LLC - What do consumers say about them?

Has anyone ever had any experiences with RJM Acquisitions LLC NY? I received a letter in the mail from this company about three weeks ago about a fingerhut account that I had 5 years ago (or more).

I Just recieved a "Bill" from this company RJM. I am beside myself with worry and wondering what is this!
They want $1,968.85. Now I have to take precious time to call, write letters and investigate this charge. I keep a tight reign on my finances, being a small busines owner and purchasing several homes through the years, I have kept my credit in excelent standing.
Thus begins the investigation I find myself Here.

RJM is trying to collect from me for someone who doesn't even live at my address or is related to me. If they say it's for a book club that's horse shit, I only read Playboy!

RJM is a joke. Lately they're trying to collect on debts from as far back as the early 1990s. They rely on the fact that most people don't even know about statutes of limitations, etc. They expect you to send some token payment and thus re-start the SOL. Don't be fooled by the "50% discounts" etc. They expect you to take advantage of this, so that they can take advantage of you by re-starting the sol and coming after you for the entire amount. RJM is not even licensed in several states where it is operating as a debt collector. Report them to your state AG if they are unlicensed, and tell them you are filing a complaint in a court in your jurisdiction against them, should you hear from them again.

I got a letter from RJM and was going to pay it because it is a debt I know I have but it sounded a little strange with the gift offer and stuff. Should I go ahead and pay it? What is the SOL factor? And how do I find out the laws in my state?

Hi Bethann

Have you gone through all the details mentioned in the letter? If it is correct and you are sure that the RJM is authorized to collect on the account, pay it off.

SOL is calculated from the last payment date done on your account? Every state has its own statutes. You will find all the info with your state attorney general's office.

Bethann, the SOL depends on which state you are in. Most are between 4 and 6 years, except for Ohio which is an incredible 15 years. If you got a letter from RJM, nine times out of ten that SOL has run. Recently they've been trying to collect "debts" as far back as the early 1990s. Find out your state's SOL, and if it has run, send RJM a cease and desist letter (return reciept) saying that the SOL has run. Recently on some dunning letters I saw, RJM actually prints the date of last activity (such as Dec 20, 1994, etc) LOL. As I said earlier, in many states RJM is not even licensed, which adds to any potential litigation you might wish later.

To whom it may concern,
I, Cassandra P. Diego have settled the above mentioned account with a money order payment of $128.44 to RJM Acquisitions, address 575 Underhill Blvd. Suite 224 after receiving a letter from your company dated September 29, 2004. The money order was dated Oct. 23, 2004.

I am writing because I am unable to get any kind of loans due to this showing as an adverse action and showing as not being paid at all on credit reports given by credit reporting agencies.

I am writing to see if this problem can be remedied by your company. I have paid the debt off and would like to receive some sort of receipt showing it as paid to your company and for your company to clear this with credit reporting agencies. If need be, I will provide hard copies via certified mail to your company.

I would also like to receive acknowledgement of this correspondence from your company that can be either e-mailed to me at:

I have received two demands for payment from RJM acquisitions over the last few months. Thing is, they were both for debts that were satisfied before they went to collections, 6 years ago to be exact. Do they think people are so stupid that the will not go to their credit reports to check on the debts? Also, how does offering an expensive gift or credit card to someone as incentive to pay off a debt if they have poor credit in the first place.?!?!?

Received letter from RJM Acquisitions stating that I owed $144.41 to Household/California Fed Visa Classic from 1984. Letter stated that I opened the account in 1982 and made last payment 6/19/84. I never heard of this company and did not have a Visa card at that time.

Bill Boyd, I can't believe that they would think consumers are that ignorant. The statute of limitations would have run on that alleged debt in any state in the nation, and very long ago. LOL and the proof is all there in their letter, (with the date of last activity). Send them a cease communications letter and tell them that per their letter with the date of last activity, the statute of limitations has run on this "debt". If they ever try to sue over it, file statute of limitations as a defense, show the court their letter, and it will be thrown out quicker than lightning. It will never come to that though I'm sure.

Darlene, if you got the same sort of letter from them, also do the above.

Have they validated the debt as per the fdcpa laws? If it has been done, then it will be better to pay it off as early as possible so that you improve your credit file.

WHAT IS FDCPA LAWS?

This seems a cross state scam. I received a mail from the same company just now and claimed I owe a book membership club which I neved had. The said book membership was started in early 2003 before I migrated to the U.S. It was sent to an old address in California and was forwarded to my new address in another state.
It was very clear of its threats that If I do not pay for said membership that they will have this in my credit report!

It is a small amount but it makes me fuming mad that a company, whose claim of debt is not true, is threatening to destroy my credit report that I am working hard to raise. Since there is not basis of said debt, isn't this a scam?
Since it has cross states, isn't this under FBI's organized crime investigation arm?
I was a victim of ID theft a couple of years ago and I know going to the local police will not work. These firms, will ask for small amounts like a hundred or so, so as not to warrant the attention or time of law enforcement agencies. But small amounts in thousands of cases make a tidy sum to these people.
I have never taken any membership for any book club, much more when I still lived overseas and had no $ account, etc.
I will do the fraud alert as suggested here but I believe there ought to be more that can be done for a company like this.
If you google about this company, there are other reports of being scammed by this company way back in 2005.
Small amounts, like phishing in the Internet, makes the organized criminals think that the police or people will not make a big deal out of this.
Are we just going to sit here and watch this company harrass and scam other people?
What are the other options of harrassed consumers from seedy companies like this?

yea i work for these scumbags...its easy to dispute a claim..just tell them you never had the account, if its one of the old accounts, the scam ones, just tell them you never had it,and if its over 7 years old you are not legally obligated to pay it. however if they still say u owe it they are going to ask you if u lived at this address just tell them no, and they will just close the account as a disputed account, most of the time they dont even put it on ur credit report cause of the scam. hope this helps... i hate working for these guys but its the best job i can find right now but yea and if your ss# isnt on it dont pay...the social is the only way they can prove it you, so u people better stop being stupid and paying bills that arent yours

So far, I think it is great that they are willing to try to settle debts and give you payment options. I owed a financial institution money becasue AOL screwed me (long story) and I recenlt recieved their payment options and I am settling for 40% of my original debt. So Far I have nothing negative to say!

People...these debts are real. This company buys outstanding credit debts typically from 10-25 years ago and attempts to collect. The companys thought process is that now that people are older and more financially stable that LLC Funding can cajole individuals into paying these anciant debts off.
Legally, no one needs to pay off the debts as they are to old to appear on credit reports in most cases.

I also received a letter from RJM Acquisitions about an account I had more than 5 years ago. When I called to find out why I had not been contacted earlier about the debt, they informed me that they didn't have to tell me anything because I should be checking my credit report to make sure all my accounts are current. They wouldn't tell me who the original creditor was and they woudln't send me written documentation of what was owed.

Back during 2004 and 2005, Compass Bank used to sell their accounts that were overdrawn to RJM Acquisitions for collection.

My account had been overdrawn for a couple of weeks while I went out of town. I cleared the overdraft upon my return. Somehow, RJM still got a hold of my account (Compass says they never sold it since I'm still a customer). Every few months I would get a letter from RJM to pay up. I would take the letter to the bank, they would contact RJM, and everything would be fine for a few months.

Now, I'm getting contacted by Island National Group, saying RJM sold my account to them for collection. Here we go again!

P.S.: Compass hasn't used RJM since 2006.

Just received in the mail a notice from this outfit informing of a past due account with THE GOOD COOK BOOK CLUB (Jan 2003). I have never heard of this company and have no cook books in my home from them.
The bill is for commitment charges for books not purchased. It looks to like a scam. I am forwarding this bill to the state Attorney General's office for verification
