Hospital Bills appearing on the credit report

Can hospital bills be put on your credit report? I have several that have been put into collections because I'm still fighting with my insurance company to pay them. I'm supposed to have excellent insurance, but more often than not they pay very little or none of the bill. I can't afford a $1500 ER visit, so while I wait for the insurance company to settle, the bills go to collections. What is my best bet? I was thinking of paying just $10 or $20 a month on them to avoid any further action.

wow...it seems that the hospital would work with you. Especially since hospitals usually provide their employees with medical insurance coverage.

I would take to one of the billing managers @ your hospital. I'm not sure now what steps would need to be taken. I just do auditing of insurance payments @ my hospital. It's been awhile since I've done actual patient accounts and medical billing.

Our hospital does provide medical insurance. It's just that certain services which are contracted aren't covered under this insurance and I've received bills from them. I've tried dealing with patient accounts, but the only answer I get is the one you provided. If the insurance company doesn't pay, it's the patient's responsibility. I guess the monthly payments are my only option at this point.

I recently received shoddy treatment at a hospital ER. They threw out all of my tests because they couldn't find a vein in my arm and sent me a bill for over $500. I have talked to them, but I am getting the vibe that I'm going to be brushed off. Can they ruin my perfect credit?
