Delinquent Library Book Harms Credit
As a stupid college student, I checked out at 27$ library book from the San Diego public library. Using my dorm address as my contact information, the San Diego Treasury started to collect on my library book I forgot to return. Now the charge off is recorded on my credit report.
I sent a debt validation letter to the San Diego Treasury, paid off the balance. Yet the collector (SD treasury) will not remove the charge off from my credit report.
What do I do??

Paying off a debt is not grounds for having a collection account removed, especially a governmental one. It can legally remain on for the 7 year SOL when they took over the debt.

You can keep disputing that tradeline with the credit bureaus. Sooner or later the CA might rather delete it than keep taking the time to verify.
