I have an old stafford loan that went in to default back in 1986 the school has been since closed and if i have worked my mich state tax refund would go toward the interest and not the actual loan i wish to go back to school but i am a displaced worker low income age 43 year old female please help with my question

You have to pay off the default or resolve it before you can qualify for more financial aid to go back to school. You either need to pay it off, rehab it or consolidate it. Read the sticky section at the top of this forum.

The fact that the school has closed is irrelevent.
