Student Loan questions
I tried asking this question in the student loan area, but it was closed?
What are some uncommon (or even common) ways of gettinging help to pay off student loans? I remember from the loan 'counseling' that my school gave me about doing volunteer work, and I have looked at various places for debt relief - and what of these 'scholarships for moms' ads I see on facebook? Are they legit (a google search didn't reveal much for me)? Thanks for your help and for this site!

There are ways of getting assistance but the rules are specific. You need to be a goverment worker and pay for 120 months. Volunteer work...peace corps, americorps...you get deferments and a stipend but not cancellation. http://www.finaid.org/loans/forgiveness.phtml
You can consolidate with Direct Loans under the Income Contingent Repayment plan, pay for 25 years and the remainder is forgiven, although charged back to you as taxable income. However, if anyone is advertising anything else, it is a scam. Always use the department of education as your resource.
