fraud student loans

i went to school for a 3 semesters and then got married and moved away for a few months. when i came back i enrolled back in school until i found out my last semester of school was not paid for. my mother said that she paid for it and i trusted her to do my finances for school(first mistake) i started paying for that so i could continue in school the next semester. then i found out that my mother was taking out student loans in my name without my knowledge. it is now going through an investigation but that isn't happening fast enough and i now face some of the loans going into default because i can not pay these loans back, nor do i think i should until the investigation is final. what do i do?

Ok.....have you got copies of your prom notes yet? Once you get those you will need to file a police report. If these are federal loans, you will have to do this or pay if back yourself. You may also wanna talk to your mom and make her aware of the consequences of fraud....$10,000 fine and/or one year in prison.

That's really horrible, DANNI!! How could ANY parent do that? Well.......you said you were gone for a while? Then obviously if you were gone, you COULDN'T have signed a Promissary note for a Student loan. I would file charges. I know this is a family member, but, that's no excuse!! I'm paying on a Student loan, myself, right now....a Federal one, at that!! Sure don't wanna mess around with THIS issue if you can prove otherwise.
