Tax Return + Direct Loan Consolidation

I just consolidated one loan for 15k with Direct Loan -- and am in the process of consolidating another loan for 14th also with the DOE Direct Loan program.

Before, they were taking my tax return -- will this end once the loans are consolidated and in good standing with the DOE?

Would delaying filing my taxes allow me to receive the tax return for the unconsolidated loan too?

Is there some exception I can petition for if not, to receive the tax return anyway?

Thank you.

Once you have consolidated, your loan is out of default...therefore no tax offset.

However...you probably have a 2008 lien. Your guarantor may or may not remove it....I used to deal with cases where the tax refund was forwarded to Direct Loans. You would need to speak to your guarantor.
