Student loan with a low credit score

What's the best way to get a independent student loan with a low credit score?

Hi mike...have you spoken to a financial aid counselor as they will have the knowledge to put you in the right direction. as soaplady mentioned do a FAFSA if you haven't already and see if you even are eligible for grants or scholarships so the loan amount you are seeking isn't going to be as high as what you may have originally intended. Even with a low credit score you should be ok finding something, but speak to your school's FA counselor and see what options there are for you.
Also, are you familiar with Perkins and Stafford Loans? Stafford loans can be gained through the government or private lenders. Perkins loans are processed through the school and the school in turn uses federal money. There is a needs basis for the Perkins loan. These are the two biggies students go after, but it looks like on face, you're probably eligible at least for the Stafford as you can go the private route and bad credit should not be a problem. good luck to you
