wage garnishment

I am havign my wages garnished for a defaulted student loan. I dont know the 1st step to try show why I dont need this garnishment. i am barley making enough to pay my bills.can you help.

I am going to assume this is a federal loan. Your student loans IS one of your bills and it has to be paid. You would have been sent a 30 day garnishment notice giving you the opportunity to appeal the garnishment. If you failed to respond, you give up your rights to a speedy hearing. You can still appeal but it wont necessarily be quick plus you will have to show that the 15% they garnish is a hardship. If approved, you will have to enter into repayment and if you miss any of those payments, the garnishment will go back into effect.
