student loan

Hi, just wondering if anyone could help me? I am currently having my wages garnished thru my employer for a student loan. I have had my wages garnished for approx 8 months now & they take approx $500-$600 a month ($250-$300 every 2 weeks). After they started the garnishment I was no longer able to make my agreed mortgage forebearance plan & in Jan. my house was auctioned off after foreclosure & I have been trying to get back on my feet & find a place to live. I was told that I could send in the documents to show financial hardship to get the payment lowered so I sent in all of the documents & also medical responsiblities other deductions from my paycheck etc. & have heard nothing from them for months now that they are getting the garnishment. I am wondering how to lower the payment so that I can afford to find a place to live as I am now living in a house that has no kitchen facility & is literally falling apart from termite infestation & rats etc. Yes, I bought D-Con but would like to get my life back on track. Any suggestions how to get the garnishments lowered or to enter into another agreement. Allied used to call my work & lie, one guy said he was my husband, everyone here knows I'm divorced. I've never talked to anyone who I felt honestly wanted to help. I know they hear sad stories all day & lies but sometimes there are people who just need a helping hand in a very rough patch in their life. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

nope, I wish I made that much, I do support my son but I take home approx $500 a week after garnishment so $2000 monthly, I live in Fl & it takes nearly half that just for rent or mortgage in sub standard housing. I know what hardship is whether it is by their standard or not. Will they garnish my wages until the debt is paid in full? If being homeless for a month & 1/2 is not hardship, what is? I would go back into my office after hours & sleep there until I saved enough for deposits, 1st & last etc. It seems as if when you have a job & try to do what you can noone will help but if I lost my job & do nothing, I would have more options avail, shame. Distribution of wealth at its finest. Besides, I had an agreement to pay $127 a month with DOE & the paycheck that I was supposed to send the payment in was the 1st garnished by Allied. DOE said basically, oh well, we cant do anything now.

I have been checking several of my paychecks & according to my calcs, I am def being garnished more than 15% of my disposable income. Actually, it's a bit more than 15% of my gross income before anything taken out. Are you sure of the 15% & is it a law? I need to check into this with my employer HR I assume.
Do you know if I was to send a separate check in for even $5 or so more than the garnishment if in 9 months I could end the garnishment? Someone told me that if I make my own payment for 9 months it will stop but I can't afford the garnishment now so I could only send a few more dollars. Does anyone know if this is true? I really don't even mind them taking it directly out of my paycheck because that way I know it is always made on time consistantly but the amount is so much I'm really struggling financially with the basics! Any advice? Thanks in advance.
