I just got my tax refund back and I want to settle my husband debt with discover card. But I am very scared to call them. With everything that I have been reading it sounds like it is not going to be good. This is the story I married my husband about three years ago and he had really good credit. But when he got divorced he had "of course" half the debt. I came in late in the game he had already started not paying things on time. We let his credit go. It has been about two years. Discover card has not sent his accounts to a CA and it is not with an attorney. But I am scared if I call them and they won’t work with me that they WILL send it to a CA or attorney. I really need advice or just some encouragement to just call. Is the best place to call “programs and settlement dept 800-347-3554” Thanks for the help.

hello serenity,

95% of all discover accounts go to a lawfirm called zwicker and associates, the other lucky 5% either go to a collection agency or to a lawfirm in your home state.

zwicker and associates is horrible so your clear on that

now i safely assume that you might be able to settle that discover debt as low os 20% if you stick to your guns, youd be really surprised on how low they can go. this is all good news for you. thank god its not with zwicker and ass.

let me know if i can help more

I just got the nerve to call Discover. One is with NCO and the other one is back with Discover. Discover said that he has cash advances in the amount of $6074.23 that is what they willing settle, balance with all fee's is $12905.00 we do not have $6074.23. Will they go lower if I wait it out? His last payment on this account was 2/2008. I called NCO 50% is what they offered. We offered both companies 20%. Should I keep calling them? Kind of like I was collecting from them until they settle? What should I do now?
