HARP while trying to settle

I'm trying to settle some high balance credit cards. I'm about 90 days past due right now. I got a letter from my mortgage company saying that I may be elegable for a HARP refinance.

I asked a bankruptcy atty online if I could apply for the HARP while my credit was bad. He said that I should apply right away.

Can you offer any advice on what to expect when they see I'm behind on 4 credit cards.

Thanks,

Cinderella

I have hamp and was settling at the same time = whatever you can do to get your bills down would be great -- they do look at your ability to pay but they will bring the mortgage down to something you can afford based on your abilities -- it has to be no more than 31 percent of your income -- if you are delinquent it is better since technically you are not paying the cards --

Well, all they'll see is whether or not your your debt-to-income ratio happens to be 31 percent or lower. So your being behind on 4 credit cards literally helps you qualify for HARP.
