I was served with a court date for a past due debt to a credit card company a little over a year ago. I panicked and contacted Midland. I was told that I owed about $8400.00. I thought my debt was about half that, but had no proof. I now realize that I should have asked for a 'debt validation' letter and checked the SOL. Regardless, I paid them $1000.00 and have been paying $300.00 a month since then. My question is: is it too late to request the validation letter? If the SOL has passed can I stop payments and try to get my money back? How can I contact them for my balance due? Other than paying off a debt I may no longer owe, how can I make this stop?
