First source called me to try to collect on a debt that I know is not mine---same name but wrong person. He asked for my birthdate and last 4 of ss#. I refused to give him this info. Is it safe to give out this info?

Umm.. pardon but he does know who he's talking to. Someone is calling him stating he owes a debt. He knows he doesn't. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving his birthdate (I could find out yours in 30 seconds or less if you gave me your first and last name, which this CA already has - he's just trying to differentiate the two) and LAST FOUR of his social to the guy on the phone. It ain't hard to find that either if you have the proper resources. He's trying to distinguish between people with the same name. Give the CA a break.
