Rip Off?
Date: Fri, 08/17/2012 - 07:43
We received a letter from Midland stating we owed 555.32, but they would give us a discount of 222.13 if we paid this month. We have never had an account with the original creditor they named and when I contacted them, they said the letter had been sent by mistake! This seems like a deliberate act of fraud since they backed off immediately without checking for proof we did not owe this debt. My husband and I are an older couple. I handle our bills since my husband is often confused about what is or is not owed - and would have probably paid this without question! Would they have taken and kept my money if I wasn't clear in my mind that I did not owe this debt? Who can I report this "accident" to? I wonder how many people have sent their hard earned money to this company in response to a bill that looks official?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gloria Fowler
