What experience has others had with negotiating with a collection agency to settlement previous medical bills? How much will they typically take - 20%, 30%, 40%??
I owe a rather large amount from 2 years ago in the $55,000 range.

Depends on the collection
Depends on the collection agency and your negotiation skills. I have met many people who have settled their debts at 40%. Not a big deal. You have to convince collection agencies that you're in financial hardship.
