Warning: pdls posing as your bank to get info

Hello, guys:

Okay, this is TOO strange. I received an email this morning from my bank (bank logo was the same and the bank's name was part of the url) stating that because of several ineffective attempts to logon to my account, my online privileges had been blocked. It included a link where I could "verify my identity" so that I could continue using online banking. The weird thing is, the email address they used is THE ONE I GAVE MY THREE PDLs... when I went to my online banking site, I signed on with NO problem. Hmmmm......

So, watch out people, now that these pdls cannot access my bank account, I wouldn't be surprised if this ploy is one of theirs!

It could be that. However it probably is a phishing attempt, that is a common e-mail that these scammers use. My wife has gotten those before, exact same kind and wording and she has never had a PDL or any kind of debt collection. That is good information to give people though so they don't get caught into giving someone their information.

That is why I have more than one e-mail address. I use one for only family and certain banking and financial institutions that I know will not sell my address and I have others that I use that I don't care if spammers get. I don't get any spam with my main e-mail account.

I think i'd still send this information over to your bank!! Let them know! Can't hurt anything for them to be aware of this!
Let us know how it turns out!

P.S. Also, teleport, i just recently got something like this from paypal and was wondering also! They made it seem like they were updating their site. But i'm always very cautious with things like this since my pay pal has been hacked in teh past! Luckily all monies were returned to my acct. Now i have an account JUST for online orders! I've also recently recieved something similar from Ebay... I didn't respond. Figured the worst that could happen is they close my acct and i reopen a new one! :)

I get those here at work also. Many of these places I have never heard of before. Never click on thier links. Another scam that is going around is about getting a postcard from someone. Does not give a name as to who it is from or anything like that, might say from a partner, a friend or something like that. Our IT guy sent us an email about it. Do not clink on their link either. It is a computer virus. I know that was off topic, but thought it was worth mentioning.

I used to bank with Chase and I had someone call me posing as one of their customer service reps asking me to update banking info. I knew it sounded fishy, so I asked them to give me the last four of my account #, they wasn't able to do that, so they hung up and of course the # on my caller ID said "out of area." I figure it was an ipdl lender that I defualted on, trying to get my new banking info so they could start debiting it

Please forward that scam email to your bank! Totally outrageous! And, also, I know the FTC has a "spam email" database they keep. You can forward your email to them also at spam(at)uce.gov. They want you to forward the entire email to them so that the header is included so they can see where the email originated from. I'd send it to them also. I've also gotten the bull crap emails from EBay and Paypal. Give me a break. But this one posing as a bank??? Holy crap! I'd sure forward that one on to the bank and the FTC email scam.
