EastSide lenders lawsuit. Is it legal?
Hello all,
I was recently contacted by someone who is trying to serve me with papers for a payday loan I took out with East Side lenders over a year ago. It was for $750 and I paid them $1125. I reside in Missouri and as far as I can tell they are an illegal lender in this state and I should have to pay them the principle, which I already have. I have found documentation that I paid them this amount. I filed a complaint with the Missouri Department of Finance, but I am wondering why they would attempt to sue me, if the are indeed illegal in my state.
Does anyone else have any other advice or ideas of how to handle this?
Thanks!

Most likely, they are just trying to intimidate you into paying.
Most likely, they are just trying to intimidate you into paying. I have been served before (not for a pdl) and the process server just showed up at my door one evening. My point is that a real process will not call you to tell you they are going to serve you and will definitely not try to work out a payment arrangement in lieu of you being served. You need to file a complaint with the FTC and the Missouri Attorney General's office. Good luck!
