Negotiating payoff on a car loan

I am down to the last 3 payments on my car loan. There are substantial late fees attached due to my past financial issues. I am wondering if there is any way to negotiate for a lesser payoff? I'm only looking to reduce the late fees. Not sure if there is a fairly good way to approach this with them. Any ideas or advice would be most welcome.
