SIP - This is called the systematic investment plan. You have to invest a specific amount at regular intervals. It's a great option when you can't pay a huge amount at one time.

Mutual Fund - In a mutual fund, you have to make one-time down payment. In short, you have have to invest a substantial amount at one go.

I would say, SIP is a bit better! In SIP, you invest a fixed sum at regular intervals regardless of the NAV (Net asset value) or market level. Investors automatically buy more units even if the markets are low. This results into a lower average price and eventually into higher returns!

SIP is a method of mutual fund investment and not a type or comparable investment instrument. The other tool for investing in a mutual fund is a lump sum amount or one-time investment.

I would say that don't depend only on a mutual fund. Actually, you shouldn't depend only on one type of investment. Your financial portfolio should comprise of a variety of investments. And make sure you have a retirement fund and don't depend on SIP or Mutual Fund for your golden days.
