GC Services: Customer feedback and tips to deal with collection calls

Filing a complaint with the BBB against GC Services is like getting one mosquito bite on a July evening hiking through a bog. Forget the BBB, file you complaint with your state attorney general's office or with the FTC. Get more bang for your buck and hit them where it matters. How do I know this? I work for them.

First of all i work in the American water department their not that bad there and there are no drug dealers! Just to claify!!! Sure i would rather work elsewhere but G C Services isnt that bad so calm the F*** down!

Well no one but the original creditor or owner of the debt can do those things. Seeing they are third party debt collector, they need to do those things right after or have the intent and be able to prove that. Or its a direct violation of the fdcpa. Which can allow you to sue them for harrassment. I think its up to 500000.

Student loans are never sold so it is the guarantor placing the lein and seizing the taxes. There is definate intent as they all actively do so. And the violation is $1000 max...

They are not harassing...so no violation. Read the FDCPA.

I had the displeasure of talking to a Derrick Williams - who claims to be the top dog at GC services. I have a student loan that i took out for may son, he was so rude telling me he will take my house and any property i have. I know this has to be against the law. He was so rude when i asked to speak with his supervisor, he said he was the head person on shift at that time and I could not be transferred to anyone else. I had to hang up and call back later. Also, why do you have to have a checking account to pay, why can't you get a money order and give them the # on the money order and mail to them.

Is this a PLUS federal loan or private loan?

The reason they want a checking account is easy....ever heard of the old saying "the payment is in the mail'? Statistics show that payments mailed each month are likely NOT to show up or be late.

If this is a federal loan, you dont want to be late or miss any payments. They can and will garnish your wages without a court order.

so, what are the chances GC will go for a reduced settlement?

It will be the discretion of GC whether or not they will go for a reduced settlement. You need to negotiate with GC and convince them to offer you a better settlement offer.

my debt was $9000 and change and they offered a settlement of $5000 first...I paid $125.00 a month for 6 months and now they are offering a $2200 settlement. I agree they are a**ho****. Even when I explained my health situation, the harassment continued. After talking with them for 10 minutes my blood pressure was 169/100...stroke level...I immediately wrote a letter to my family explaining the phone call and if anything happened to me that night...sue the hell out of them.

For months they've been calling, almost daily, and an automated message is left that begins "This is a private and confidential call for Nancy Anderson...."

I've lived here at this address, with this phone number, for 11 years. There's never been a Nancy Anderson at this address. (I also know the people who lived in this apartment for many years before I moved in.) When I actually try to answer their call, I just get the same recorded message. (The name is spoken by a computer voice.) I just want them to stop the calls, they're wasting everyone's time.

In my opinion, it will be better if you could simply ignore the calls. However, if you wish, you can give them a call and inform them that no one called Nancy Anderson stays there.

Call them, get their address and send them a cease and desist letter.

That dept is a hot mess lets start with Brandy Jenkins who is a manager but should have been a kindergarten teacher always up flopping around trying to hang up items to decorate as if the employees are small children that at some point in the afternoon were to be given juice and cookies. She wears the same clothes 3x a week and dyes her a weird purple color everyone calls her "purple rain" and its def not a compliment...she has horrible graylike colored teeth and swears she is IT.....girl stop!!! Moving right along David Rogers is the dept head and and he is rightfully so that brick that was placed onto his neck is out of this world....literally......his head is huge and his body just wasnt made out of love how can a man be built so......unshapely...????? He is a bigot and well they all can go to hell for all I care...NEXT..........The parking lot is nothing but a dwelling place for pillheads and gunja blowers and I guess this is normal b/c the bullshit that the management puts you through self-medication is necessary. Charles Adams and Karri Cole sell roxys and oxys to some of the employees that work there and ive sat and laughed at the pillbuyers as they have nodded off praying that the ones nodding off arent on the road when i clock out. Eddie and Karri themselves are nodders.....Tonya Wade is unhappily married and wants a black man so bad.She made sure everyone knew it at a gathering that was had back in 2010. Her and Brandy damn near had a 3some sticking tongue young black mans throat he looked so uncomfortable that me and some of the other onlookers couldnt help but laugh.....lol....Anyway just letting some of yall know what's going on stay tuned;;;;;;;))))))))))

I sued this place a few years ago for violations. They settled with me for well over the amount of the debt they were trying to collect. Go and talk to a Attorney if you think they are in violation. I did and the Attorney said to keep letting them and document it. A few weeks later they were sending my Attorney a check.

:confused:I would like to know how to handle contacting GCS. Can I call Sallie Mae first to inquire exactly how much I owe before I speak with GCS? What is my legal obligation to pay? Just the debt uncured and owed to Sallie Mae? Please advise. Thanks.

you can call sallie mae but more than likely they will immediately transfer you over to GCS. There is a contract between Sallie Mae and GCS....Sallie Mae agrees not to interfere without due cause.

Is this a federal or private student loan? Either way you have a huge legal obligation to pay. If this federal, they will garnish your wages and tax returns...if private they will just sue you.

I just got my annual credit report and noticed there was a negative account on there from GC Services. I wasn't contacted or aware I had a collection with them until I saw it on my credit report! It's for an old account that was paid off a year ago. I've disputed it on my credit report and called the original debtor to make sure I do actually have a zero balance. I'm afraid to call these people because of the information I've been reading. I suppose I'll just wait the 30 days it takes for Experian to dispute it for me.

just because you paid it off does not mean that the tradeline will go away. They are entitled to report the debt for the full 7 years as long as it is reporting zero balance paid collection.

Looks like GC Services victims will have the last word. The website is looking to start a class action lawsuit against this fraudulent company.


It seems GC Services uses the lame excuse of "trying to find" the debtor by calling and harassing family and friends of debtor. Their true motive is to intimidate by revealing your financial difficulties to others. This despite them knowing full well where you reside.

Pretty underhanded and they deserve to pay big time.

DO NOT pay this! My daughter received something similar stating she owed fines for a ticket received in SC,~ although we had to go through a lot to get it cleared up. We proved she wasn't in SC, it turned out that some numbers had been put in wrong and that is how she ended up with the ticket and fines! It's a scary thought that these things could happen!

They have started calling me now! Only thing is, I believe they are spoofing caller ID numbers because the number that shows up on my caller ID is a local number for a locksmith (two separate local numbers and locations used). But when dialing that number back, instead of the local locksmith, I get a recording that says "Welcome to GS Services" NOT the locksmith (which both numbers locally are in my phone directory). Further, my credit is in good shape and do NOT owe any debts of any kind!!! This so-called collection agency needs to be shut down for this and so many violations of the FDCPA and FCRA!!!

I'm in the Air Force Reserve. When I went down to basic, I informed Sallie Mae that I was not in a position to be able to make regular payments for a while (I was going to be in training for about a year). Although I was told that my loans would be paused for a year, they were not, and they were sent to a collections agency. After making regular scheduled payments with this company for 6 months, my orders ended and I had to go home. I called and talked to this agency to tell them "Hey, I just got back home, I havent gotten a civilian job right now, so I cant make payments at this moment. Is there a way I can hold off on paying until I can find something permanent?" The rep that I spoke to basically called me a dirt bag and a liar and then cancelled my account.
One week later, I get two letters in the mail from Sallie Mae telling me my loans were forbeared until April and May. Cool. Dont know why they didnt do that in the first place but whatever.
GC Services has been blowing up my phone for the last month making claims that Sallie Mae is lying and that I have to pay them. I've told them that I have proof to the contrary and that they have no right to continue harrassing me over it. These people are total scumbags wh will lie to you to try and get money out of you.
