was sent a check

I doubt it was sent to you from us, but odds are if you don't remember entering any contest, the check is bogus. They probably want you to cash it, then send them back some of the money to cover fees or something. It's most likely a scam!!

Pallas-Whatever you do....do NOT endorse the check or try and cash it. Bring it to your bank and have them call the issuing bank to verify if the chek is legit or not. Chances are, it's bogus. By having your bank check, it alerts them that this scam is going around to their customers. I know that our fraud department is very interested in learning about these checks and getting as many copies of them as we can. I hope this helps. 8)

Pallas, please tell the name of the company you see in the check? You did a search on the internet and that's how you came to this message board.

Don't give out your personal info to the company who wrote the check. Throw it in trash bin and forget about it.

I remember something like this happening to me also. I received a check saying that I won a big prize and need to give out my bank details for further processing. It also asked for some processing fees. I just decided to stay away from it. They make you feel that you are on the top of the world and possibly, you open up the doors for them to steal your identity. Be careful!

this happened to my aunt someone sent her a check and it didn't have anything on it saying where the check was sent from or nothing so she took it to her bank so they could verify wether it was real or not and 5 days later the bank notified her that it was a fake. she figured it was because the letter inside told her to cash the check i think it was for $3000 send them $1500 back and she keep the rest then after she do that then she would receive a check for the rest of the money that she won.

if you don't know where the check came from - and you want to know if it is legit - you go to your bank and have them do the research.

That check thing has been happening around here, it has been on the news that company names are being put on the checks to make them seem legit. The company was completely unaware. Take it to your bank and let them verify, don't go shopping just yet, LOL.

Cajun, that is too funny! This happened to me not too long ago. I contacted the company the check was written on to make sure they were aware of what was going on. I didn't enter any contest either although the funds would have been nice. I then filed a complaint with my local police department. It came from Canada.
