Her comments were very uncalled for. You can file a complaint against the company and mention her name with your AGs office. You do not have to explain why you have medicaid and it isn't her place to judge. If you had medicaid coverage at the time of the bill then all you have to do is give them that info. and give a bill (if any was sent to you from this company) to your case worker.

kristen -
Welcome to the site.
Have you called the medical office or hospital where the bill originated and asked them about the charges not being covered by your medical card? (I'm thinking you must mean Medicaid?) If you had Medicaid at the time the bill occurred, you should have been completely covered.
Why don't you start there? See if you can get this straightened out so your credit is not damaged unnecessarily by this.
Also, since you have registered with this site, a debt counselor will be calling you to talk about debt consolidation or settlement. If you do not need their services, just let them know when they call.
Please keep us posted on your progress - I hope your situation improves soon! :-)

Kristen,
First off, that collector was totally out of line! It is not her place to judge, or talk about daycare, or the man in the moon to you. She had no right whatsoever to speak with you like that.
What I would suggest in the future is getting the names of anyone who calls you and writing it down. This way, you can call the hospital and say, "Oh, did you know a collector from XYZ corp named Miss __ called and was very unprofessional?" You have rights under the fdcpa not to be harassed like that.
Second, Medicaid should fully cover you. I would suggest calling the hospital's business office and asking to speak with one of their Medicaid billers there. (Trust me, they've got 'em  ). The billers would know exactly what you need to do and would probably have phone numbers for people in local Medicaid offices they deal with that could help you.
Good luck and let us know how you are, OK?
