what can I do to make this payday loan company stop calling

what can I do to make this payday loan company stop calling me at work it is to the point that if they don't stop I might loose my job

Frances -

first, welcome to the forums! We'll be happy to help you in any way we can. Since you have registered, a debt counselor will be contacting you shortly to discuss your options - if you feel you don't need their services, please inform them when they call.

Can you give us more info on the payday loan company you are speaking of, please? The name of the company would be helpful. We're here to help, please feel free to ask any questions you have. It would also be helpful to know whether this is a loan you obtained on the internet, or one you took out at a storefront (a physical retail location.)

Frances, the pdl is trying to get their money back, so they are doing the calls. Their actions will get aggressive if you avoid. I will recommend that you pick their call and explain that you will be calling them back and arrange a payment plan. Tell them you are not allowed to take personal calls at work and ensure that they will hear back from you. While you say this, ask for the latest itemized statement of the account. You will need to review the charges on the account and compare it with the state laws before making an arrangement. Make them feel that you are not avoiding the debt and don't want to be called at work. Give an alternate number for them to reach you.

Frances, first of all, take a breath and calm down - you will get through this just fine.

Bankruptcy - be very careful when considering this option. Please try to check into debt counseling or consolidation first. Bankruptcy laws have changed in the last couple of years, and it is now a very expensive process. The days of the quick and cheap bankruptcy filing are over. This is a very serious step to take, and it will affect your life and your credit for a very long time.

Payday Loan - contact these people and address this issue before you do anything else. This storefront company is probably following the state law, therefore, they will pursue you, and they can take you to court over this - which means they can obtain a judgement against you and garnish your wages, if you do not make an arrangement with them right now. Do whatever you can to make an amicable arrangement with this company, so you can avoid any headaches in the near future. They will not stop calling until you make an arrangement with them.

I, too, am a single parent, and I understand how out of control things can get. Please take a few moments tonight to sit down and map out a game plan for this situation you find yourself in. Create a budget, figure out what is most important to be paid first, and work from there. We are all here to help - please feel free to ask more questions if you need more help.
