Hang on. One of us has an address for them, we'll get it posted soonest. Or, you could search the forums, using the search box in the top/right corner of the page. NCO is not a new problem. Lots of us have dealt with them over the years.

Thanks.. I've searched some of the previous posts but haven't seen an address so far. If I send them a certified DV letter do I need to call them?

Post the phone number, and let us have a look at it. We can usually find out who called from that. If you have trouble understanding the number as spoken by the rep, dial star-six-nine on your phone. That will give you the number of your last incoming call, the date, and the time it came in.
As for the incognito... Like I was telling Shazzers, I was short on time, but saw something that needed input.

I've gotten SEVERAL calls, from NCO. I don't even remember the numbers, though. I have Caller ID..if I don't recognize the number that is calling, I don't answer the phone. THEN..I listen to the message.I've had NCO call on A FEW different #800 numbers. However...when I listen to the messages, they give me a different number ENTIRELY< to call back on.

I keep getting calls from them. They will not identify what bill they are collection (I doon't have any). They want my SSN confirmed and also my band routing and checking account number over the phone. I have refused and now I got a letter requesting payment. Are they a legititmate company? I'm worried about them trying to empty out a bank account. Of course, I gave them no information.

When calling NCO (or any CA for that matter): Stay calm and alw
When calling NCO (or any CA for that matter): Stay calm and always remember that you are in control. It is common for them to ask for SSN, because by law they have to make sure they are talking to the debtor, I think it is just about the only law they actually like to use. The way around this is to simply give them the last 4 digits of your social and let them verify that with your name. Be firm. Once that is out of the way ask these questions:
1. Who is the original creditor?
2. What is the full account number?
3. What is the date that this account originated?
4. What is the total of the account when it originated and what is the total now?
5. Please give me your address.
You can then inform them that they have five days to send you a letter detailing this account and that they can expect a response from you as soon as you get that letter.
It is as simple as that. If they ask you to pay it, simply inform them that you need to look at your records in case you need to dispute this debt. ((oh they love when you say that by the way)). They may try to get you to admit to the debt, they may ask, "Did you have such and such?" The most simple answer for you to give is, "I don't recall and I have no intention of discussing this with you until I have had time to look into this." That is all you tell them, anytime they ask for anything ((other then an updated mailing address, you can give that to them..otherwise how will they get that letter out to you?)) you tell them that you will not discuss the account until you have had time to look into it.
NCO
This debt that they are trying to collect is supposed to be from 18 years ago, so they have stated. The letter does not name the company wishing to collect a debt. I am truly unaware of any debts and the letter stated that they will reduce the payment from $487 to $257 if I pay withinh 45 days. Is this a legitimate company? They are extremely threatening on the phone and I will not deal with any personal information with them.

Kangaroo there is no law stating that after 7 years you are not
Kangaroo there is no law stating that after 7 years you are not legally responsible. 7 years is how long an account can stay on your credit report. Each state has a Statute of Limitations that list various years, but that only protects you from suit (and if you get a suit thrown out for SOL you will get nailed with a 1099-c and still have to pay for that debt.) I think there are 2 states that have laws that once the SOL is up the debt is extinguished, but can't remember which two.
Just wanted to clear up the misconception so people don't get the wrong idea. :D
Oh and don't let them intimidate you. Answer the phone, make sure they are contacting the correct person (I got many calls that were not even for me). Then you can tell them to send it in writing. THEN you can send them a DV and in that letter tell them to stop calling you.

Recieved a Call from MCO Finanical, they are calling my family members. I know I have student loans out since 1998. The guy that called My Sister-in-law, is located in Alanta, GA. This guy stated it was for a job offer in ALANTA GA. He probably said that because I haven't worked in over 2 yrs. When I did work the state would take my Tax Money to pay off some of the loan. They will say anything to get a hold of you. I don't think I'll Call the 1-866-235-2740 number. My Current address is on my Credit report, which I'm sure he has.

They are fucking scam artists!!! They got me for five dollars posing as a collection agency that i thought was mine. They are 100% bullshit. Call the police or fbi these bastards need to go to jail!!!!! I'm gonna make a report to the fbi today you should too. Justice only works if we apply it.
Hi all, I am glad you have had this discussion. It appears to me
Hi all, I am glad you have had this discussion. It appears to me that this is ALL a scam from MCO Financial. We got a call on an answering machine, not giving our name and no other details just a phone number to call. I never called. Got another call this week, on caller ID and I was on the phone, didn't get off to answer. They called again and I picked up and nobody would answer, so I hung up. The number that showed up was 1-800-709-8625. I would bother to go upstairs to post the other number to call, but I do remember it is not that same number. In other words guys, I definitely think this is a scam. Usually if you owe a company money, they themselves will send you several bills with overdue notices. And you can call them to arrange a solution. Other than that, you NEVER give out information about yourself over the phone - nevermind your bank account number. If it was legitimate, you would have heard directly from the people you owe first. Ignore it. Or if you have questions about an outstanding debt, then call your company directly. I know I have good credit as we just had a credit check done to buy a car.
They should be arrested! I plan on calling the BBB to see what can be done. I am not contacting these people at all.

Debt Collectors may NOT:
*harass, oppress, abuse, or use threats of harm toward you or any third parties they contact;
*publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts;
*Use obscene language or repeatedly use the telephone to annoy someone;
*Take or threaten to take your property unless this can be done legally.
They are also restricted in the statements they can make to debtors. They may NOT tell you that:
*you will be arrested if you do not pay your debt;
*they will seize, garnish, attach or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so and it is legal to do so;
*they will take actions, such as a lawsuit against you, when such action legally may not be taken, or when they do not intend to do so.
Finally, debt collectors may NOT:
*give false credit information about you to anyone;
*send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not;
*use a false name.
A debt collector IS permitted to contact you in person, by mail, phone, telegram or fax. However, he or she may not contact you at inconvenient times or places (such as before 8 am or after 9 pm) unless you agree. They may not contact your place of work if the collector knows that your employer disapproves of such contacts. You should inform the collector accordingly, in writing, to cease such actions. Keep in mind that this does not resolve the debt.

Another vote for this is a scam. I got a voice mail from "MCO Financial" today. Number was 1-800-709-8625. Same MO where they say its a dept collection to trick you into calling them back I guess. I've gotten a few of these calls before and ignored them but today I finally bothered to look up the name on the Internet because I wanted to confirm it was a scam.

I also filed a complaint against this company at the Do Not Call government site. Not sure if that will help but I encourage others to do so.

my husband's 2 siblings (one of which has different last name) got calls asking for his ss # and birthday. They just called our house asking the same and said they said they were from MCO (I asked if it was "M" as in Mike....he confirmed) He stated his name as being Joe Lang and the # is 1-866-899-5860. He said he was calling about an American Express collection. We are current with all our accounts.
MCO Financial scam
I have been getting calls from this place for a few days. I do have some outstanding debts, but I am going through Consumer Credit Counseling. So I know I have covered all my debts. The number they were supposedly calling from was 1-800-303-1995.

MCO has been calling me to try to collect on an old student loan. I know it is in default and I'm not trying to dodge the debt, but I've hit a "rough patch" and money is beyond tight. Brian calls and inquires about repayment options on an unidentified number and when I explain my situation, he encourages me to 1. Borrow money from familyor friends; and 2. Apply for a job at the local branch of their agency. Is it such a smart move to go to work for the company who is trying to collect on my debt? Sounds fishy to me.

I got a call today from MCO Financial. It was a recorded message left on our home answer machine. They stated they are a debt collection agency. We have no outstanding debt with anyone other than the usual loans, auto, home, etc. But are all current and have always been. So I called the 800-709-8625 number back anyway and sat on hold for 10 minutes listening to their music. I hung up and web searched MCO Financial. Thats how I found this forum. Glad to hear its a scam, for selfish reasons, not glad to hear stories from you all abot them harrassing you. Hopefully it does'nt continue for us. I'll check back if it does, good luck everyone!!

Just adding another data point that these guys are a scam. I recieved a recorded message from these guys (from the 800-709-8625 number) saying they were a debt collection agency and to call back. I don't have any outstanding debts. I filed a complaint with the donotcall gov agency. I encourage others to do the same:

For all of you with calls: Verify your last 4 digits of your so
For all of you with calls:
Verify your last 4 digits of your social to properly identify you. If they claim they are collecting your debt, then verify your current mailing address because they now have 5 days to send you a dunning letter. Tell them you do not wish to discuss anything over the phone and await their letter. If they keep calling back simply keep saying, "I am still waiting for your letter." and hang up. Don't even give them a chance to talk...because they will likely say, "oh we sent it."
Jim B: the do not call registry does not work with collection a
Jim B: the do not call registry does not work with collection agents. At all. What you need to do is verify you are the person they claim to hold a debt for, then verify your address and wait for a letter. Once they send the letter you can then send them either a validation letter, or if it not your debt at all then send them a total cease & desist claiming they have the wrong person.
Only if they violate the cease & desist can they get in trouble for contacting you again.
The do not call registry applies to telemarketers and those who solicit information via the phone, debt collectors do not fall into either category.

OMG!!!! The same thing happened to me! They said I owe $11 K in student loan fees!! They actually garnished my wages for this. My HR dept at work didn't double check the SS# when it came in. So I had to battle for them to stop. Our Human Resource dept had to contact these people and tell them it's not me! This has got to be fraud!!! And now even though they are not garnishing my wages anymore (thank god I caught it as soon as it happened) They still send me letters and call me non-stop. I'm be harrassed for someone else's loan.

They call me all hours day and night with automated call backs and a message stating it is "Solely for Oneeta Smith." If I get lucky enough to talk to someone, as soon as I tell them that I am not her, nor does she live here, or do I know her, they just hang up... Why do they keep calling if they are not going to fish for more info. or try to verify. This doesn't make sense if it is a legit business. If it is a scam, it makes sense in that the person on the other line isn't trained in how to handle the call correctly, gets scared and hangs up. It's so annoying, because as stated, it's difficult to fight a collection agency, so what about a scam posing as one?
