What do I do next?

I was recently contacted by AvanteUSA regarding a debt they purchased from a school I went to few years ago. I did take out a loan through Sallie Mae but that has since been paid off. I was caught off guard and took a settlement they offered. I then realized (thanks to this site) that i have the right to request validation of the money they say I owe. I promptly sent a request for validation through fax and certified mail.
Upon checking my bank account on the day and the day after the first payment was set to go through, and seeing that no money had been withdrawn, I assumed they were working on the validation process. I checked my bank account a few minutes ago and saw that there had been a money withdrawn in the amount that we agreed the first payment would be.
I plan on contacting AvanteUSA first thing in the morning, but I don't know what to ask. Was I supposed to receive something from AvanteUSA saying they where able to validate it before they withdrew from my account? Does requesting validation put a hold on the terms of the payment we agreed on in the settlement? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Yes, you should get a validation from the collector first before setting up a payment plan.

You may contact the bank immediately and see if the withdrawal can be reversed.

Have you given any verbal authorisation to them for being able to withdraw from you account? Have you agreed to the debt on phone?

They may argue that you have agreed to the debt by getting into a settlement arrangement and agreeing to pay through your account.

You should also remember next time not to give your account information to a collector.
