Question .... if I have not gotten any mail from this company, nor are they (as of 4 days to 2 weeks ago between the 3 credit reporting agencies) on my Credit reports. Should I call them back? Or should I wait a week or so to ensure that no mail is coming to me, then call them and have them remove my number from their call list?
anyone have any dealings with them, who they collect for, etc?
FIGHT BACK!
These overbearing collectors keep calling and harassing me even after I told them to STOP! I'm fed up with them and have notified the FTC about their illegal practices!
If enough of us complain, then the government will have to do something about them.
You can file a complaint with the FTC online...
Just go to the ftc's webpage and go to the tab for consumer protection.

they have not called me since the day or so after I first posted asking about who they were. Maybe they had a wrong number?
Pay all your other debts first!
This company rarely negotiates... ALL OTHER CREDITORS DO! It would make sense to pay off all your other delinquent accounts before even thinking about paying off these bloodsuckers!!!

AMerican Agency
This agency called me to try to collect on a 15 year old debt from an old Bally's card. Bally's has no record of this debt and the statute of limitations for collections of this sort is 4 years.
This is the second time in about 3 years that this company has called on this account. The first time I received a letter and sent them the notification that the account had exceeded California statute of limitations. Didn't hear from them again until today.
877-866-8300 Possible Federal Trade Commission Violation
I finally went to the Federal Trade Commission Call enforcement division at:
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2
and filed out the online violation form. I figure with our taxes we can have federal government enforcement of unscrupulous business use of our phone system, which we pay for.
Phone Calls from American Agencies
I have been called twice & left with messages by a female voice saying call this phone number:1-877-728-8912. Both times she does not leave her name or even a reason for calling. I have not returned her phone calls as I am not sure if this is some sort of a scam or what it might be. The only way that I figured out where the above phone number originated from by was by doing some research. Should I return the phone call or just ignore it? J R

I have been getting numerous calls from these people (888-278-6801, 877-866-8300, and other numbers) for the past several months. I'm sure I don't owe anyone so I did some research on them. The BBB gives them a rare "F" rating, and there are complaints about them on numerous web sites. More telling, though, is that I checked the local court filings (here in a major city) and found NO lawsuits or judgments by either American Agencies or ACA Receivables. I also checked my credit report and confirmed that there were no adverse notices or any unpaid debts.
The conclusion I draw is that they are a paper tiger. Since the debts they are trying to collect are not legally recognizable, the only weapon they have in their arsenal is phone harassment. To answer the previous person's question, you should definitely NOT return their phone calls or give them ANY personal info (even confirming your name) -- this is playing right into their hands.
If the calls really bother you then you might try buying a phone blocking service or contacting an attorney. Calls that use an auto-dialer or pre-recorded message (like "Please wait for the next agent") are illegal unless used to collect an ACTUAL debt, and you can win damages of $500 to $1500 PER CALL. I haven't sued them (yet) because I suspect it would be difficult to collect any judgment against them. They would probably just change their name and conceal any assets or move them offshore.
odd
I have received phone calls from the company asking for my husband's x wife. Using her old married name. They've been divorced for close to 10 years now and my number is a new number. How were they able to track his x wife (divorced for almost 10 years) to my new phone number? They kept asking me for her number but I wouldn't give it to them.... Heck, I don't even know it.

I can add another phone number to the list. 888-861-2636. They have only called here twice so far, but a few more calls would not surprise me. A recorded voice say this is not a sales call please call this number.(Why would anyone call them?)

I've been getting calls from this company for the last couple of weeks, on my cell phone which has only been in service for 7 months. I've never heard of them until now and have never dealt with them in any way, no mail from them or anything, yet I'm getting calls at least 3 times a week. They leave an automated msg saying this is not a sales call, call us back, blah blah blah...they're crazy if they think I'm calling them back.
