877-354-8148?

Anyone got a line on the owner and addy of this number?

You were correct, it is AMEX direct. I looked over some old documents and matched it up. IT is American Express, PO Box 740640, Atalanta, GA 30374-0640. Thank you for helping me out.

I'm posting to warn others about what I think is a phishing scam. I received a call from this number yesterday and they left an automated (computerized) voice mail message stating that I should call them back. The return number I wrote down was 877-254-8148. However, when I checked my cell phone, it said the call came from 877-354-8148. I tried to return a call to the first number and it would not go through. I then called American Express customer service directly (at the number listed on the website). They said they had not called me and that the number seemed to be a scam. When I realized, last night, that the return number was different (again, one number off -- perhaps I wrote it down wrong the first time), I called them and got a quasi-realistic phone message that said they were American Express and to leave a message (which was strange). I then called again this morning and was asked for my information (phone number, last 4 digits of social security number, etc.) Oh, I should mention, the original voice mail said I was to "reference number" and the number they gave was my phone number, which was odd. Any way, when I called today, the man, who was very rude, kept asking for my info. When I asked him what card this referenced, he got nasty and told me he could not give out that info without me giving him the last 4 digits of my social security number. I asked him, "If I call the American Express Customer Service line, whom do I ask for to be transferred to your department?" He told me they were a separate division. Anyway, he was again rude, so I ended the call. I then called Am Ex and they told me no calls had been placed to me from them, that all of my cards were paid up, and that my accounts were healthy. They assured me that my accounts were protected. I do wish they would have conducted an investigation into this caller, as clearly I'm not the only one being contacted. I am also now a little concerned that whomever I spoke to now knows my phone number is a "live number", they know it belongs to me (they used my name, which they could have gotten anywhere) by name, and that I have an Am Ex card. I just don't know to whom they might sell or give that info and what repercussions could follow. Thanks for listening.

I too have been receiving phone calls from this number.?? They leave messages saying they are AMEX and to return their call at 877-354-8148.?? I've called them but no one every answers.?? I believe these people are Nationwide Credit Services collecting for AMEX.?? They sent me an offer letter on AMEX stationary with a correct account number.?? I have left messages that I can't settle if I can't speak to anyone.?? It's surprising that all of a sudden the calls have stopped.

I've received a call from this number every day for nearly two years now. There are two different automated messages that cycle through for about 3 weeks each. 1) "Please call Sharon Smith at American Express at 877-354-8148..." and 2) This message is for...Roxroy Young [not my name]. Please call American Express at 877-354-8148..." I have never had a personal AmEx card; only corporate card through a previous employer that has long been defunct. This is clearly a scam. Who do we report this to to take some corrective action? It would seem that the real AmEx would want to quickly squelch any fraudulent organizations using their name and reputation for illegal purposes.

Call their number, press 1-1-1 to talk to a representative that may be able to remove you from their list.

For added fun, keep calling the number asking for random AMEX stuff that the real AMEX should be able to answer.

I wouldn't call them back at all. I did a Google search of the number and I believe it is a scam. File a complaint with the FTC, the FCC, your state Attorney General, your state Bureau of Consumer Affairs - in short, everywhere you can!

Also report the scam to American Express or whichever credit card they say they are representing.
