How to close a deceased account

How to close a deceased account?

If the bank gets the information that the account holder has deceased, they will freeze the account(s) till the time they get any court order about paying to his/her heirs and creditors. If you are the heir of the deceased person, you should notify the bank with the copy of death certificate along with Social Security Number, and bank account numbers.

Submit the death certificate in the bank.
Once you submit the certificate, the bank will freeze the account. You can submit the certificate both online or in-person at the branch.

You may need the following documents to complete the deceased account:

The death certificate
Identity proof
A document that will prove your relationship with the deceased person.
