I recently reviewed my credit report and found an item from a hospital in Columbus Ohio. I did live there but not at the time that the account was open and furthermore I was employed full time. I got the results back from Experian and the response was "updated" which means that some ahole there at Rossman lied and said that was me and my account. What is sad is that I contacted the hospital directly and spoke with a rep there and she confirmed that it "WAS NOT ME" AND NOT MY ACCOUNT!. I am driving to Columbus on Monday as I live in Cleveland and I am gonna get this straight and I will post the outcome of this to this board when I return!

they are posting an account as being owed of 114.00 to after hours medical, it is still on my credit report, I have disputed it, it was paid in full in 1998. They told me they would send a report to Experian in May, Why do I hae to wait until MAy for them to report they have proof it was paid 10 years ago but they are still reporting it as unpaid?

Just contacted the BBB and they said they could do nothing about it. Just found out Rossman also filed the same bill with Transunion on 9 of 2005 even though it was paid in 1998. This company is a joke.

I used to work at Rossman and Company. I can tell you anything that is reported on your credit as unpaid but you say you paid it, you have to supply the company with proof you paid it, then they have to send it to the orginal client(the hospital) and verify it before anything can be done. All the accounts sent to Rossman and Company are from the orginal client and any false information is the clients falut not rossmans. So stop the crying and get over it and do your investigation of credit collections better.

I know I have a med bill but its out toledo, oh from St. Vincent Mercy Medical. if this is legit, why is a company is columbus calling about a bill from toledo if they have nothing to do with each other?

What this company is doing is not unlike most debt collectors of rather ill repute. They find some claim or a record that they could make money from and try to harass normal and often times financially stressed folk into paying it whether they owe the money or not.

They know very well that you can't fight it or won't fight it for the amount owed because it usually would cost more to get a lawyer. There are, however, ways to fight it. Especially if you don't owe it and can prove it. Also if you send them a letter to cease and desist they have no choice but to stop calling your house even if you owe the debt. That doesn't mean they can't sue you to try to collect it though if you do. Even if you don't they'll often try to sue you in your local claims court. At this point it's not a bad idea to know a little about it. It's probably a good idea to get a consultation, a lot of these are free and if you talk to enough lawyers about it you might get enough info to counter it in court. Also, you always want to keep all old medical records and receipts.

If you send a cease and desist letter and they continue calling or if you think you're being treated unfairly read the "Fair Debt Collections Act" or get someone that can for you. If you receive a summons and you don't show up in court to counter it it will just go into default and the company then has the power to take legal action. Until that point they don't have much power to do anything. They can't legally threaten to take anything you have or do anything against you until after the court gives them rights. After that their rights are still limited by laws. In other words, they can't threaten to take your children as debt payment or anything absurd like that.

If you do find you've been treated unfairly according to the FDCPA you can fight back and they might end up owing you money.

If you do owe the bill however as much as it pains me to say this, it's often best especially if it's a small amount just to work with them and get it paid off. But remember if you have nothing they can take nothing. Hard to take blood from a turnip.

Know what they can and can't do. After the judgement they can do many things but not all things and probably only a small portion of the things they threaten.
