When needing to obtain credit report on others
What to do when a loved one passes away:
If a loved one has passed away, you may need to obtain a copy of their credit report to settle on their estate. But also most importantly you need to notify all three of the major credit reporting agencies of the loved one's passing.
Requests for credit reports need to be made in writing, will need to provide a copy of the loved one's photo ID and death certificate.
The credit reporting agency will need:
[list=1]
Full Name
Address
Social Security Number
Date of Birth
Also the credit reporting agency will need your identifying information to complete the request for the credit report.
[list=1]
Name
Address
Social Security Number
Copy of your Driver's License
Copy of Power of Attorney
By notifying the credit reporting agencies, you are ensuring that no one can try to use their personal information for Identity Theft purposes.
Once you obtain the credit reports you will then have the name and addresses for each creditor needing to be updated of the loved one's passing. And further information on the arrangement of the debt.
What to do when obtaining credit report on minor:
The credit reporting agency generally will not issue a copy of a child's credit report, unless it is linked with Identity Theft, which is becoming a common occurrence today with separated parents using a minor's information to establish credit.
If that is the case and you need to obtain the child's credit report, then what you need to do is provide the credit reporting agency with the child's identifying information:
[list=1]
Name
Address
Social Security Number
Date of Birth
Copy of Photo ID if available
In addition they need your identifying information as well:
[list=1]

Address
Social Security Number
Date of Birth
Copy of Driver's License
Copy of Guardianship
If you find that the child has in fact been a victim of Identity Theft, then you will want to take further steps to notify your local police department, and the credit reporting agencies as well as the creditors involved.
Obtaining credit reports on others:
Example would be a service man out of country, just like above, the credit reporting agencies need their identifying information.
