Small Claims Suit vs. Asset Acceptance

I contacted Asset Acceptance recently regarding an old SBC bill from 2003 as I saw a file on my credit report. SBC mixed up the address when I closed down the account, as a result, I never recieved my final bill.

AACC contacted me regarding the outstanding balance of $285. I called them first to change my address as I was moving and to obtain verification of the the bill. They claim it would take upwards of a year to obtain proof. When they proceeded to change my address, I gave them some bad information by accident as I was moving in a week and did not know my new address by heart. The AACC rep proceeded to accuse my of "lying." This took place at my work place. Needless to say, I was very upset. A couple weeks later, I was able to take care of this bill. So that portion of the problem is now resolved.

However, I am not satisfied as that I have been insulted/ slandered in my workplace. I proceeded to mail a certified letter to AACC raising the complaint and demanded an appology. A month later and 3 phone calls to the compliance department, I have heard nothing back. I am now proceeding with a small claims suit vs AACC for slander. I am in the state of California so the I can sue for slander in Small Claims Court.

The business practices of AACC are completely unacceptable and something needs to be done. I see all these posting on this site and I wish you all the best in resolving your accounts with these guys.
