Medical Bills

Hello,

I had a open heart surgery in 2003. I was covered under my fathers insurance until I turned 19 in April of 2004. Most of my medical bills were paid by the insurance, but there is a balance of about $2700 left from recent check-ups. I've been making monthly payments of $50 to the hospital since April of 2005; the $50 is my own judgement they wanted a much higher payment that I could'nt afford. Thats when I finally got a job. Now today I recieve a notice in the mail that part of my bill has been turned over to "Omnium WorldWide, INC" for collections. What my question is I guess, is it legal for them to do this even though I have been making payments on the bill, just not the ammount they wanted? Where should I start? Will the remaining balance of my bill be turned over to this collection agency? The collection agency wants me to pay $180 something a month to get it paid off, but I can't afford it and didn't agree to it. I live in the state of Iowa if that information is needed? Where should I start? What should I do?
Thanks for the help
Lance

Hi Lance

Welcome to the forums. As you have registered yourself with this company, the consultant working in the debt consolidation program will conduct proper negotiations with your collectors for the actual debt amount.

The collection agency has to validate the debt that you have not been able to pay on your account. Before you enter into a payment plan with them, the consultant will make sure that the collection agency has been efficiently able to provide the following information.

  • The details of the account.

  • All the calculation should be shown of the amount that is owed.

  • Any copies of the papers to be furnished that shows the payment agreement.

  • Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable

  • The original creditor needs to be identified.

  • The Statute of Limitation needs to be proven for the collection of the debt.

  • The license of the collection agency applicable in the state is to be furnished along with the license numbers and Registered Agent

  • Proof of the agreement that the debt collector has purchased the debt or has been hired by the creditor to collect the debt from the debtor as this is the basic contract law.

  • Complete payment history showing the details of the creditors, payment history, amount of the debt, break up of fees/interest should be provided in paper.

  • A copy of the original signed loan agreement between the debtor and the original creditor establishing the debt between both the parties also has to be produced.

After they have validated your debt, a payment arrangement will be made by the debt consultant with your collector keeping your interests in mind. The payment pattern will be suitable as per your present financial needs.

The consultant will also offer you budgeting and counseling programs which will help you to keep a check on your finance. You will be able to save a good portion of money through this program and achieve a debt free life faster. For free registration, you can enter your contact information at the sign up page in this company and get in touch with the consultant at the earliest.
