bad credit

I have a bad credit on my credit report from 1990 shouldn't that be gone by now?

Hi susi

Welcome to the forums. Negative items stay in the credit report for as long as 7 years unless you have filed for bankruptcy which can stay up to 10 years. Since your credit report is reporting bad credit since 1990, please check if your credit report is free from the following errors reported by the credit bureaus.
[list=1]

  • Credit inquiries
  • Credit rejections
  • Late payments
  • Past due and unpaid payments
  • Court judgments
  • Collections
  • Loan defaults
  • Repossession
  • Foreclosure
  • Bankruptcy

    You can rebuild your credit through a systematic plan and little perseverance. After you have pointed out the errors in your credit report, please send a dispute letter to the credit bureau highlighting the errors. You can include copies of your documents that support your point. Give reasons of your dispute and request them to remove it or correct it. You should send your letter through certified mail with ???return receipt requested,??? so that your letter is received. Keep all the copies of your dispute and enclosures.
    After receiving your letter, the credit bureaus will investigate your item in question. If they find your item to be valid, they will inform all the other credit bureaus so that the information is corrected in your file.

    After the investigation is complete, the credit bureau will send you a free copy of the credit report showing the specified change and give you the result in writing. If any item is deleted or changed, the consumer reporting agency cannot put it back in the credit report unless the information provider verifies that it is accurate and complete.

    Lastly, if you find the credit bureau has not made the change as per you desired, you can ask the bureau to add a 100 word statement in your credit file which will be shown to anyone who will be viewing your credit file.

    Regards
