Hi Jordan
Welcome to the forums. As the proverb says: "A dollar saved is a dollar earned."
In most cases, the amount of money that we earn is not the actual amount that we take home. Most of the money is cut by deductions such as income tax, social security, retirement plan contribution etc. The amount that we take home after all the deductions is called the disposable income.
I put stress on the fact that we need to direct some of our thoughts to the direction of saving. I insist you to build some of your other ways to income such as doing overtime on your job or doing a second job at the weekends to earn the amount of money that was cut in the deductions. We need to apply a disciplined, economical and common sense to our money management.
For e.g. the interest that we need to pay in our credit cards needs to be earned through other sources of our income. Not earning through other sources will decline our financial position and we will find ourselves in financial trouble. We need to control our spending when we get tempted to anything we see in the market. If you maintain a proper balance between the ration of income to saving, every dollar saved will actually be a dollar earned.
