Debt Collector

I am sick of these folks too.. First they called me for months on my cell phone and the only message they left consisted of an electronic reading of a string of numbers. No phone #, no message. Then this week they started with illiterate sounding people leaving incredibly rude messages that they are going to make an important decision on my file, and they reference this same number so I know it's the same folks. Today I got the final courtesy call... do they even know the meaning of courtesy? They need to get some people skills, and hire more intelligent sounding people.

One thing that you can do is keep a record of their calls to your home. Make sure that you take note of any threats that they make.

They are not allowed to threaten you with jail time or a lawsuit if they are not really going to sue you.

Just keep a good record and then, after a while, you could present these threats to an attorney. because threatening calls do fall under false statements in the Fair Credit Collections Act.

So, if they are guilty of making false statements, you do have a cause of action to sue.

Also, you can stop them from calling your home. But you would have to remember that you will still be responsible for paying your bills without them reminding you.

So be careful with this option. but if these calls are really a nuisance like you say that they are, you should probably consider this.

In order to do this, you will have to write a letter to the collection agency saying that you do not wish to be contacted by them anymore.

They will have to stop calling you but you should remember that the debt won't not go away.
