How long does a charged off account remain in you credit file. If seven years is the answer, does the seven years start with the account opened date or the reported date on the credit report.

Welcome to the forums. A charge off account stays in your credit report for as long as 7 years and after that time, it gets automatically deleted.
The calculation of a charged off account begins from the date of the original delinquency that led to the charge-off (that's even earlier than the charge-off itself!). It may happen during this time period that the account will be sold to the different companies or collectors, but the time will be calculated from the original date of delinquency.
