Hi jschaud
Welcome to the forums. You can definitely negotiate with your creditors at your own and ask for an alternate payment plan. Please look into the "Do It Yourself" section in this site designed to guide the debtors going through such situations.

If you can negotiate nicely with your creditors and keep on making payments every month, they will certainly remove all the negative entries from your credit report. Make sure that they put your accounts as "Paid as Agreed" or "Account Closed- Paid as Agreed". Never get the status "Settled" for your account as it has negative effects and hampers your credit score in a major way.
Please look into the sample letters in this site kept for your guidance in writing to the creditors.

At any point of time, if you feel that you require professional help, you can use the services of the debt consolidation program which will release much of your problems. You do not need to pay anything for using these services, but this program will get the negotiations done giving you the best payment plan suitable to your needs. Please look into the benefits of using this program.

thanks roxette,
I think I will send them a letter asking for a reduced balance, no interest charges, and removal of all negative information on my credit report. In return for that I will agree to a set amount payable on the 15th of every month and closure of the account as agreed. Is there anything else i should ask for? I will make certain to only agree to payments that i can make.
