Hi dot
Welcome to the forums. It is possible that when the debt collectors try to locate a person, they sometimes end up by contacting a wrong person. fdcpa law does not restrict the debt collector from contacting a wrong person but they are restricted from continuously calling him.
Please ask the debt collectors to validate the debt that they are claiming. Otherwise you will be taking a legal action by filing a case against them.
Please write a letter to them asking to cease all sorts of communication with you except through mail by validating the debt (if any). Otherwise, it will be a violation of the federal law. Also, inform them that you are recording all the telephonic conversation held in between both of you and if necessary, you will be producing it in the court.
I am sure that they will stop all sorts of communication with you after they receive your letter. If they continue to call you, then you can file a complaint against them at the attorney general office in your state.
