Unsure about Allied Interstate

Hello all. First time here. I stumbled across it when I was looking on the internet to see if Allied had an actual website. I, too, have been dealing with them. I have a student loan that degaulted, and was sent to Allied. I have yet to receive any rude or threatening phone calls. My problem is this: I have no banking accounts, so I have to buy pre-paid Visa's in order to make the monthly payment to get this out of default. I called the man that I've dealing with today to see if the payment went through. He wasn't in, but the person I talked to said it was denied. Now the Visa's I use aren't personalized, so that could be why, not sure. Won't find out til monday now. THe thing I'm wondering about is the fact that to my knowledge, I've never received anything from Allied in writing about this debt. I know I owe it, but I didn't know til I came across this site that you had to have it in writing. So I'm at a loss. Thanks for any suggestions anyone has.

Samantha-don't call and ask for it in writing,do like Tammy said, write. There are many forms on the forum to go by for a debt validation letter, and send it certified with return receipt. Also, keep a log of what you do in it,like the letters, who you talk to,dates, what was said. It's always best to have something to cover your a** if anything comes up. Godd luck and welcome to the forums...Karen

Don't pay attention to RIP OFF reports, they are full of people that are mad b/c they owe debts and they caught up w/them. allied interstate is a valid licensed company. Now if they are calling you for a Federal loan> they do have a gov't contract so heed the warning, if it's a regular student loan> heed their warning, some clients ask for a certain amnt of accounts per month to be sued. Pretty much if is a student loan your screwed b/c they will sue you and the collector can recommend it. Ask for support, they'll fax it to you. If you try the mail thing, your just going to make them mad. You already gave information to make a payment which means you've already accepted the debt is valid. You messed up there. They will be more than happy to send a letter of representation to you though. It will state the clients name and that they are handling it. Pre paid cards really aren't good to use for payment of debt either, they are harder to trace. You guys need to read the fdcpa and read about your rights.
