Welcome to the forums. The creditor has to send you "Notice of Right to Cure" ten days after you get late. This notice will further give you 20 days to catch your payment.
You will be only given one notice in the entire term of the contract. So, if you further get delayed, the lender does not need to send you notice once again and he has the legal right to repossess your property.

The cure letter should show the amount required to be paid in order to cure the default. If you pay less than that amount, they can still repo.
