Payment

What happens if my account has been sold to a third party but I pay the creditor?

Hi Horrified

Welcome to the forums. Is the third party aware that you are working with your creditors? After you have completed paying the full amount to your creditors, the entry will be removed from your credit report, thus making it clean.

Please let us know if we can assist you further in anyway.

Thanks for your response! I didn't make myself clear. I can pay the creditor, but not the complete balance. The reason I am asking is because after my experience this week with Collectcorp, I do not feel comfortable giving them my banking account number that can be found on a check if I were to pay them. Would it hurt to pay American Express? Thank you for your help!

Hi Horrified

Welcome back. It won't hurt as you pay your debt to American Express. Please inform the collection agency of your action.

I will suggest you one more way to pay your debt. If you are not comfortable paying by check to any of them, you can pay through money order.

Please make sure that you keep all the receipts intact in case you need them in future.

Please let us know how to assist you further.
