I am so scared...
I am unemployed and am a housemaker. I have $900 a month allowance which I am now depositing into an account with the debt settlement company.
The credit card companies have started calling. The Debt settlement company says they will stop calling as soon as their letters to cease and desist reach the right people. I just don't answer the phone. I expect to get sued and have judgments against me. I have no assets except for the house which I own with my husband.
How long does it usually take before I get sued? Will I have to go to court once this happens or do they just inform me that a judgment has been made against me? I have no bank accounts except for the one from which the debt settlement company withdraws my monthly payment from and is always at it's lowest allowable balance. Should I just stick it out and let the company do what they can? I am signed up with them for 48 months. Should I just stick it out? I can't sleep at night just thinking of what's going to happen next.
Thank you for your time and advice,

I was in a similar situation, but I found a way out. Maybe I can help.
[quote=Mess in MD]I just signed up with a debt settlement company. I have about $60,000 credit card debt which I cannot pay the minimum amount on. I created this mess myself, and I will not declare bankruptcy so as not to involve my husband. None of this credit is his, he is not even a co-signer with any of my credit cards.

Hi guest
Welcome to the forums.
I read your post and understand your situation. However, do not lose heart; there is still a ray of hope.
As you have told us that, you have already enrolled yourself in a debt consolidation program with a debt settlement company. This will ultimately solve most of your problems. The task now, is to co-ordinate effectively with the debt settlement4 company. Please ask them to talk with your creditors, so that they stop calling you.

Regarding your second query, it depends on the statute of limitation of your resident state. If the SOL is not over then the creditor can sue you. However, you informed us, that you have already started paying them off your debts. Therefore, if your debt settlement company can convince the creditors, then there is chance that they may not sue you. Still if they want, they can sue you if the SOL of your state has not yet been over.

Please stick to the debt settlement company and do not stress yourself out so much. Keep your calm and handle the situation tactfully.
All the best to you and keep coming back with further queries,

Hi Mess in MD
I read your post and will like to suggest you something over here. You can check out for some government grants and hope that you may qualify for it. As a result of it, a new budget will be developed for you so that you can come out of the present scenario.
Once it gets sanctioned, you will not have any risk of getting sued and won't have to go to the court even.
Please do let us know about it.
Regards
