:?: i wont be able to pay of all my debts before i leave the country will they be able to find me

Hi Guest,
Welcome to the forums.

I read your question. You want to leave the country without paying all your debts. The fact is that if you want to shift to any other country permanently like the UK, which is in a different continent, then you do not have to pay for the debts, which you have incurred in U.S. However, if you shift to Canada then U.S. laws and debts can easily be validated in Canada.

However, not paying off the debts is not a good sign. Please try to clear off the debts as much as possible.

Hope this information will be useful to you
Peter

Hi guest

Welcome to the forums. It will be a positive move if you pay off your debts before leaving the country because some agencies have a wide network to recover the debt.

It is possible that a debt can be collected by a company outside the country because some debt collection agencies have wide network which is willing and able to collect debts in other countries. They have made the arrangements with other agencies or because they have branches operating in those countries.

So, please avoid not to leave your dues behind and get harassed in another country.

Roxette

any idea if canada has debt relations with australia?

I have defaulted on my bank loan and c/card debt ($30,000 total) in australia - had to come home unexpected due to personal tragedy - i am not working yet. I wish to remain in Canada...
I am scared as i have never been in debt before and i cant think about anything else - i feel sick...so far nobody has contacted me - its been 9mnths. But i really would like to pay off once i can get back on my feet - so i hope they wont take me to court. What is the best options? Can i apply for bankrupsy from overseas? I am ashamed to let anyone in my family know this has happened and have kept it a secret...i feel lost.

Hi Guest

Welcome to the forums. Please do not feel sad over what has happened in the personal front and think positive.

Always have optimistic thoughts whenever you are feeling down. Please try to contact more and more people for getting a job of your choice.

Over here, I have some suggestions to offer you.

Assuming that you will be staying in Canada for some years ahead, Australian Creditors cannot contact you as there are different credit laws, and the FCRA don't apply there.

If you stay out of country long enough, the statute of limitations for legally collecting the debt also will expire. They will charge off and expire after 7 years of reporting time.

In Canada, you will have to acquire new credit, for a separate credit report in this country. Hence, there is no need to apply for bankruptcy.

Speaking logically, it is very much impossible for the Australian creditors to track you in Canada. Please do let us know if you are feeling comforted by now.

Please sign in the forums for regular updates and information on debt consolidation.

Thank you so much for your reply...

i will try to find work and get myself back on track. Then i plan to contact the bank in Aus and work out a payment plan.

I feel a massive load of my chest as i feel so unhappy about some of the decisions i made without prior knowledge of having to return.

i wish things worked out differently - but honestly want to do the right thing.

Your info is greatly appreciated. Thank you again!!!

Angelo

There is a close relation between the FCRA laws of USA and Canada. Your debt accounts will appear in one of the credit bureaus and hurt your credit standing in Canada. Since you have defaulted in your accounts recently, it is well within the SOL period. In such a case, paying them off will be only a good option. Tall to your credit companies and see if you can get a payment plan finalized.

I left Australia 8 months ago. I left a large debt with my bank for a personal loan and credit card.
I have a good good credit and have worked since I was 17 and paid off all my previous loans. Unfortunately, the plan was that I would travel to the US to live with my husband. He would be working and assist paying off my loans until I finished my greencard processing and I find a job. Unfortunately, this did not happen. I continued paying off my loan up until I ran out of money. Its been about 4 months since my last payment and now they are chasing me. I have explained my position with them at least 3 or 4 times and one has told me that they cant pursue the debt internationally and another said that they can....who's right?? I have asked my mother to make the last two payments for me. It will probably be another 1 or 2 months before I am allowed to start looking for work. Do you have any suggestions on how I can manage this. I know this will be paid, but its just a case of when and I know these guy's will start loosing they're patients soon. Im loosing sleep and exausting my options. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
