Collection Agency problems
Here's the deal: I'm being harassed by an Agency that doesn't seem to listen to what I say. I understand that they want me to pay (I'm looking for another job), and that I haven't made a payment in a very long time. But where's the understanding and human compassion? My parents can't help and I can't do anything. They recently threatened me, telling me to get a lawyer, because they're going to recommend to their company to file suit. How am I supposed to pay a lawyer, when I can't even pay off my debts... Or buy school books. I understand that this was my mistake in the first place, but everyone needs some time and patience. I need advice, help, something and anything. What am I to do? Can I send them only a couple of dollars every month to keep them off my back? Or can they still sue me?? And if so... what then?
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Collection agency problems
Hi Ttaylor
Welcome to the forums.
By reading your post, I understand that you are going through some serious financial troubles. For this reason, you are unable to pay up your debts as well as you are unable to purchase your schoolbooks. In spite of your repeated requests to the collection agency, they have persistently resorted to unfair means to collect the debts.
Here is what you can do. You can find your solution through either of the following ways.
i) You can consult a local attorney and can sue the collection agency for violating the fdcpa guidelines. You should also book a complaint in the local police station, if the harassment continues.
Please click on the following link to view your rights as per the FDCPA guidelines.

ii) You can consult a debt consolidation company and they will negotiate with your creditors. Once you are enrolled into the program, the collection agency will stop harassing you. This service is offered free of charge by most of the debt consolidation companies.
If you wish, you can register yourself as a member of this site as well. On doing so, one of the debt consultants near your area will contact you shortly to guide you out of your debts.
Hope you will find this information useful.

Hi Ttaylor
Welcome to the forums. It very sad that you are being continuously harassed by the collection agents. The debt collectors are violating the Federal Laws which states that calls before 8 am or after 9 pm are considered to be unreasonable. The Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (fdcpa) also bars the collectors from calling at work, causing harassment, using abusive language, making false or misleading statements, adding unauthorized charges and many other practices. Please put your request in writing to them stating that you are not interested in talking to them and they are violating the FDCPA laws.
