Deceased Creditors

My mom passed away last month. she was on ssi and had nothing. what little she did have is having to pay for her cremation and funeral cost. I have no clue how many creditors she had, what is the time line I have to give them in regards to any payments if there is anything left over. Am i supposed to try to find out what debt she has? Just really confused.

you inform the creditors of her passing once you know who those creditors are.since she was on SSI and had nothing else then any other debts are your call as you are not liable for those.

My heart goes out to you, as yes, I have also lost a parent. Did she have a will? Depending on the state you live in, I know that there is a time for Probate. Usually, this is when an announcement is published in the paper, giving creditors time to make a claim against the estate. If she made you the executor, then you would know. If she didn't have one, then her next of kin would inherit everything, but I still think that you would have to go thru probate, depending on your state.
