Questions regarding CFNA-Firestone

Good Morning,

I had an account with CFNA...my last payment (below the min of only 100$) was received on 9/10/2013. Yesterday I went on to check the account and saw that the balance was 0, and had been charged off. They gave me the number to the collection agency, AllianceOne, who could not locate my account.

I read up online, and found that some creditors will reopen the account for payment? Is this true? I guess my question is what are the chances of CFNA letting me pay them directly, without paying the collection agency?

Thanks!

kristen

Hi Kristen,

The account appears to be in temporary limbo while you're waiting on Alliance One to load the account into their system.

I would wait for a few days and call Alliance One on Monday.

Thanks for the response. How does it work with the original creditor. I've read that some people have paid the original creditor even when charged off to a CA. Do you know anything about this?

About the only time people deal with the original creditor, after charge off, is when the account is in limbo on their end.

They'll generally recall the account to place the account at a new collection entity after 6 months or so. That is when the above-scenario can take place.

You should be fine in respect to working out a deal with Alliance One. If your goal is to settle with them, I'd start off at around 25%.

If your goal is to pay it off in full, find a way to do it quickly. Your credit won't begin to heal until the charge-off is fully resolved.
