Since we are not Mel Harris, we would have no way of knowing what it is for. Call them.

I got a call from my old landlord that she got something from mel harris, looks like a check. I know that there was a pretty large class action case against them, might be related to that. a few years back I had some major issues with this firm. Froze my bank account without warning. Same here. Just got a refund check from them for $108. Settled a couple credit card debts with them some years back. Plan to call them about reason for check. No explanation given. Almost threw it out but decided to do google search first.

I called them regarding this, I also received a check. In 2007 they 'froze' my account. I only received it when something didn't clear, I had no idea what was going on they said they got a judgement against me. I had NO idea what they were talking about, never even received a collection letter from them let alone a summons! Anyways, they made me pay to take the hold off my account which I did. Just recently there was a class action civil suit against them and they were also audited, they had to refund literally millions to a lot of people! I bet we are owed more than we all received, but we will never know, the whole thing is shady. It is from a suit from years ago, you all can call and they will explain in great detail, which is what they did with me. I also called my bank to make sure they couldn't get my account number by me depositing the check and they can't. My only recommendation would be NOT to sign the check, as they can get a copy and then have your signature, I would write "For Deposit Only"

We all have been a victim of Mel Harris sewer practice. I tried calling them but they are always busy and that you have to leave a call back number. I suspect the check is a result of the class action lawsuit against Mel Harris.

I also receved a check in the mail but I dont trust them. Ive been calling for days find out the reason they sent me the check but no one answers the phone. The check did not come with a reason why it was sent so i'm very aprehensive about deposting it. On the face of the check is says void after 90 days. This firm is the worst!

Why make a deposit. Go to a check cashing place and get cash!!

most checks like that will have that void after 90 days.btw follow bingonut's advice and cash it at check cashing place.
