Late Fees on a Car Loan

I took out a car loan 4 years ago. The first year we did awesome with our payments but into the second year my significant other lost his job and did not get a new one until September of last year. Needless to say we racked up a HUGE amount of late fees...To the tune of 986.00. The car has been paid off for a few months now and I have paid the bit of interest back that had been charges so now I am left with this whomping last fee charge. Is there a letter that I can send asking for some forgivness of at least some of these late fees? I would really like to get this taken care of as quickly as possible so the account can be closed. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I doubt there will be any forgiveness granted but they might give you something similar to forbearance.
