can you do debt mangement if its been turned over to a law office for collection

It depends what you consider "Debt Management". If you're thinking Credit Counseling, then know they won't be much help in your situation.

Credit Counseling is designed for when you're accounts are not yet charged off.

If you're thinking "Debt Management" in the sense of Debt Settlement, then yes, it generally can be negotiated.

However, the key to successfully settling your debts is to do it quickly. Long-term debt settlement isn't a very reliable approach.

Credit Counseling and Debt management/relief means exactly the same thing. Credit counseling handles all types of accounts including charged off accounts that are in collections. Debt Settlement is a totally different term and process.

I was referring to small payments via a debt management plan, but you're right.

In fact, that's why so many people that participate in a long-term debt settlement program get sued.

The collectors realize that they're not the only account and that they may have to wait for potentially 3 or 4 years to be settled.

A common strategy that the collection agencies employ is to sue the consumer so they become the priority and are settled with more soon.

This is one of the main reasons why long-term debt settlement plans have such low success rates.
